In March, Stellenbosch University rewards and celebrates second chances. Those students who fulfilled only some of the requirements during the previous academic year were given second chances. These second chances should not be scoffed at or disrespected. As the saying goes: If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. The Russel Botman Bursary Fund commends our students who successfully completed their final academic year and will present themselves for graduation at the end of this month. Congratulations to all students who did not give up and instead persevered to reach their goals. How many of us have not been given a second – and even a third and fourth – chance? These were the times we gained perspective over mistakes or opportunities. During these times, we could learn and grow.
Students who benefit from the Russel Botman Bursary Fund have proven over the years that hard work and dedication pays off and leads to success. At every opportunity given, recipients expressed their gratitude towards the generosity of the donors who contribute to providing bursary opportunities. Prof Russel Botman was a great supporter of access with success. That means that when Stellenbosch University grants our youth access to higher education, they have to do all in their power to support and guide them to be successful.
If you would like to become part of this success story, become a donor. Donate once off or make a monthly or annual commitment. In the words of Maya Angelou: “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
