Another Botman decade marked

The tenth celebration of the Russel Botman Memorial Lecture and the eleventh anniversary of the Russel Botman Bursary Fund (RBBF) marked a significant milestone in honoring Prof. Russel Botman’s legacy. This year’s lecture saw a poignant address by Prof. Nico Koopman, who reflected on Botman’s storytelling and the wisdom embedded in his sayings. Prof. Koopman highlighted how Botman’s vision continues to inspire those who knew him and those who have come to appreciate his legacy through stories passed down.

Prof. Miranda Pillay offered a pungent response, sparking thoughtful dialogue and challenging attendees to continue engaging deeply with Botman’s work and its implications. The event was graced by RBBF recipients and representatives from House Russel Botman, who reflected on the impact of the bursary fund in providing educational opportunities to deserving students.

Botman’s legacy lives on through the personal memories of those who knew him and the lives of students who benefit from the bursary fund he envisioned. His belief in social justice and accessible education is a call to support and expand this vision. As we look forward to the next decade under the leadership of Stellenbosch University’s Rector and Vice-Chancellor elect, Prof. Deresh Ramjugernath, there is a renewed excitement to build on Botman’s legacy.

Donations to the Russel Botman Bursary Fund are an investment in future generations. We encourage all who share Botman’s passion for social upliftment to contribute, thereby providing study opportunities at Stellenbosch University for years to come.
